Ngogu Bah: ‘My Office Abused Me’

Dr. Njogu BahThe Gambia’s convicted former Secretary General has denied abusing his office, insisting that “my office abused me.”

Njogu Lamin Bah, who appeared before Magistrate Dawda Jallow’s court in Banjul on Tuesday, said he spent all his time at work. “I never have social life; I never get time to see my children; I have no time with my family. I don’t have Saturday or Sunday.”

Mr. Bah said he had deprived the worthy time with his family, friends and relatives because “His Excellency has great heart for this country and we needed to support him.”

Bah was answering to a question posed by his lawyer Lamin Mboge about whether he had abused his office.

He is charged with interfering with the appointment of one Ms Jainaba Jobarteh to the Gambia’s diplomatic mission in New York. “When I was confronted with that allegation at the National Intelligence Agency, I denied it then and I deny it now again,” Mr. Bah told the court, maintaining his innocence.

Bah returns to the dock on December 17th when he will be probed on the process involved in appointing Ms. Jobarteh.

Most people accused Njogu Bah of faking his academic credentials. Bah used the court sitting to paint his educational background and career. He said he had acquired PhD in Public Administration from Rochvile University in United States in 2004. He added that he had acquired both his first and second degrees at Sheikh Ahmed Munazaba in Morocco.

  1. Wow Rochville !

Claims have been made that Rochville University is a fraudulent diploma mill.

According to GetEducated.com, an online learning consumer group, Rochville University operates under various aliases, including affordabledegrees.com.[25] An advertisement on affordabledegrees.com asks prospective students whether they “struggle in relationships, as ‘she’ thinks you don’t have a promising future?” The advertisement then promises “an accredited degree on the basis of life experience you already have with no studies, no attendance, no waiting, and no examinations.” The website claims that this degree can be obtained online “for as little as $399 and received in just 14 days!”[26]

In 2009, GetEducated.com reportedly managed to purchase an online MBA for its mascot, a dog named Chester Ludlow. The news release indicates that $499 and a resume were submitted to Rochville in May and a week later the degree with a packet of corresponding paperwork arrived from Dubai showing that the dog graduated with a 3.19 G.P.A. In addition to the MBA diploma and transcripts, Chester received a “certificate of distinction in finance and a certificate of membership in the student council”.[27][28]

On 15 December 2005, CNN aired a report on diploma mills and terrorism.[29] As part of its coverage, the network purchased a master’s degree in chemistry from Rochville in the name of Abu Salsabil Hassan Omar, presumably an identity of their own creation. Attempts to find a physical presence for Rochville failed. CNN reported that its website was operated from Sarasota, Florida. The diploma received by the network was mailed from the United Arab Emirates.

There have also been concerns that some people may have used degrees obtained from Rochville and other online universities for fraudulent purposes. On 22 February 2007 Yorkshire police announced plans to re-investigate 700 court cases after the conviction of Gene Morrison, “a fraudster who conned the courts for three decades by posing as a forensic expert.”[30] Morrison was convicted of 22 counts involving his claimed education, including four counts of obtaining money by deception, seven counts of attempting to obtain property by deception, eight counts of perverting the course of justice or intending to pervert the course of justice, and three counts of perjury.[30] The court ruled that his BSc degree in forensic science, a master’s degree with excellence in forensic investigation and a doctorate in criminology from Rochville University in the United States were gained “not from years of study and learning, but from accessing a website, http://www.affordabledegrees.com, and paying a fee.”[30]

The Sacramento Bee reported that firefighters who had purchased degrees from diploma mills to get raises were having their raises revoked. Rochville University was listed as one of the institutions that had provided degrees. In Guam, a Rochville online degree was determined to be inadequate to meet the educational requirements for the position of chief of police

Njogu stop lying about you getting your PhD from Rochville University in Public Administration. In fact, I checked it but they don’t offer a PHD in Public Administration at all. I doubt if you even obtained your MS or BS in Morocco because you were living in the US at the time. Please stop fooling yourself NJogu Bah.

  5. Wow, Rochiville ?

This is a bogus online spot one can buy a PHD for less than $500. I won’t hire someone with any credentials bearing that name.

    • Janjanbureh

Thank you Shaddiqq, I found out that the university is not accredited anywhere order than a peer review by another bogus school. I wasn’t surprised at all with Yaya Jammeh’s Government. It doesn’t care about good education as long as you have a document to show. Njogu Bah didn’t even have an associate degree but in the Gambia he is calling himself doctor since the president also call himself a doctor.

      • Janjanbureh:

I am finding it so mind-boggling that someone can fake a doctorate degree and get away scot free. I am not recognizing the character of my beloved country any more.

Luntango Investigates and …. Ouch! Ouch!

    “Dr” Njogu Bah’s PhD Univ:-

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rochville University is an unaccredited online university offering a “Life Experience Degree, and Certificate Program”. It has been accused of being a diploma mill. The State of Texas “classifies this online college as an illegal supplier of educational credentials”[1] and lists it among “institutions whose degrees are illegal to use in Texas”.[2] The Oregon Office of Degree Authorization lists it as “fake”.[3] Its operation is believed to be centered in Pakistan,[4] and its diplomas and degree certificates have been mailed from Dubai, United Arab Emirates.[5]
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has indicated that Rochville, Belford University, and the agencies from which they claim accreditation, “appear to be operated by the same people”.[6] In 2012, a U.S. District Court ordered Belford University, Rochville University’s sister operation, shut down and its founder pay $22.7 million in damages.[7]

  7. Wow..I’m speechless..But the evil that men do always catch up with them.. And I.hope this will serve as a deterrent for would be fraudsters, intending to secure top jobs in the country…

Both Njogu and Kah should be made aware of the consequences of their actions to con their ways into high positions. . Very shameful and embarrassing…

  8. Luntango Suun Gann Gi

@Bax. You got to admit though the man is smart to trick so many for so long. I met him many times and I am standing next to him in the photo of my final meeting with Jammeh. Jungo Bah deserves an Oscar, or even a PhD, for such a convincing performance.

    • Speechless! am dumbfounded. Even though I have never taken his claim to a PhD seriously, am almost convinced that his Bachelors and Masters are authentic; having been achieved before all this self deceiving titles, starting with the president, became the norm in our country. He appears to be doing okay in the first republic’s public service. Something seriously wrong and worrisome.

      • Luntango Suun Gann Gi

” … am almost convinced that his Bachelors and Masters are authentic … He appears to be doing okay in the first republic’s public service”.

Maybe Modou, maybe. Maybe that particular Maroc University existed before Wikipedia and Google Search!

    • Dida, hands off our former SG. That office is highly coveted.

  9. The idiot is still praise singing. No remorse of being an enabler all this time…I wish you rot in his 7 star hotel,Njogu…

  10. “@Bax. You got to admit though the man is smart to trick so many for so long.”

He’s a Fula man, my in-law…Ask Lafia to tell you a bit about our trickery..We are known for that God given cleverness. ..

    • Luntango Suun Gann Gi

Ha,ha,ha … no comment there! Dangerous territory for an in-law!!

    • Falee KuMang-deelaa

Bax, why do you have to display your “small mind” reasoning at a public forum? Why are clowns like you always minimizing national issues to petty tribal and ethnic bias?

Everyone knows Jammeh and his gang comes from all ethnic and tribal affiliations. We know that Njogu was not brought up by Fulas, and he does not speak Fula…. but this is besides the point.

You should be ashamed of yourself and plz spare us the “I am not a tribalist because i have Fula friends/in-laws.”

  11. Janjnabureh

It doesn’t pay and eventually it will be known. Njogu has fooled some people but not all people. The best principle is to say the truth. `
