‘Colley Is An Uninformed Noisemaker’

The leader of the main opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) has blamed the national mobilizer of the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC) for not being abreast with the Gambia’s history. Lawyer Ousainou Darboe described Yankuba Collry as an uninformed noisemaker.

Mr. Darboe said Yankuba Colley, also the mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, is only good at repeating the rhetorics of President Yahya Jammeh. He said Mayor Colley unfortunately does not understand the political history of his country.

Darboe was responding to a statement attributed to Mayor Colley published by the Standard newspaper last week.

Mr. Darboe took Colley on his statement statement that the 22 July revolution has ushered in more developments for the country than the PPP regime’s 30 year rule. Darboe said this clearly proves Mr. Colley’s ignorance with the Gambia’s history.

“Mayor Colley is not well informed and did not understand what he is talking about by saying that APRC has done more than the PPP in terms of development,” Darboe said.He advised Yankuba Colley to pay homage to the post independent regime for whatever he maybe today. That credit is due to the PPP regime.”

The UDP leader does not however see the need to waste his invaluable time to engage people who do not understand the history of the Gambia. Darboe advised President Jammeh to also learn about the Gambia’s history so that the likes of Yankuba Colley will not be misled.

The UDP leader also took a swipe on the ongoing July 22nd celebration. He said no responsible government will venture into such a celebration when over 200, 000 of its children are malnourished.

He likened the celebration to a total waste of time, resources and energies of the productive citizens of this country who have a lot to do at their offices rather than following and glorifying their leader in the name of celebrating the so-called revolution that have done more harm than good to the country.

“The President himself has admitted in his interview with The New Africa Magazine that the only regret he has is the failure of agriculture under his regime but his glorifiers are telling the public that the APRC has the best of policies as far as agriculture is concerned and other countries have emulated this policy; this is baffling,” he said.
