Kairo Radio will inaugurate a new program aimed at featuring accomplished and distinguished Gambians. The maiden program kicks off on Sunday 5 PM Easter time , with the former Lt. Col. Pa Modou Ann setting the ball rolling with Mohammed Lamin Sillah.
The goals of the new program, Talking Point, are to scout worthy Gambians of vast areas of expertise or professions. What we have discovered is that Gambians have excelled in many areas of academic, expertise or professional levels. However, most of these people have not been in the public limelight. We want these people to share their wealth of expertise, experience and knowledge with the public.
We are delighted to do the first interview style with Mr. Ann, a man with vast wealth of experience in both military and civilian life.
Born in Dippa Kunda in Kanifing Municipality, Pa Modou Ann was a member of the Gambia’s 1st contingent to Liberia (ECOMOG). The recognized senior member of the Gambia National Army served in the court martial that sentenced alleged perpetrators of the November 11th abortive coup. He left the army and traveled to the United States. He has since lived with his family in the United States.
Mr. Ann, the one-time Vice President of the Minnesota Gambian Association, excelled in academics. He earned BA and Masters in political science and public affairs, Global Public Policy & Public and Nonprofit Leadership and Management, respectively.
Ann was a visiting lecturer at the Foreign Service Institute, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Liberia between November 2012 and August 2013. He has done a lot of consultancies, including the special emergency activity to restore children’s hope and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Coalition, Monrovia, Liberia.
The interview will be the first to be conducted with the distinguished son of the land whose colleagues described him “a professional soldier who understands the problems of those who worked under him.”
