Jammeh’s Victims Ready For Overseas Treatment

By Abdoulie John

Four victims of the Jammeh regime’s gross human rights violations will be flown to Turkey for medical treatment. The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) and generous sponsors have made it possible for those who have been living with unbearable pain to get proper medical attention.

Abdou Karim Jammeh, Yusupha Mbye and Oumie Jagne sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds during the April 10/11 students massacre. Since 2000, the trio have been living with chronic pain as the previous regime ignored their plight.

The fourth victim, Nogoi Njai, was among the group of people arrested after security forces mounted a full-scale attack on peaceful protesters. The sad turn of events that took place in April 2016 was allegedly punctuated by torture, rape and other ill-treatment meted out to them by their torturers at the defunct National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarter in Banjul.

They received Friday their air tickets at a ceremony held at the TRRC headquarter in Kotu.

A member of the TRRC Communication team, Momodou Dem, told this medium that Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), Unique Solutions have joined hands with the truth commission to help those impacted by atrocities committed under the former regime.

“They will be leaving Monday,” he added.
