GDAG: Let's Reflect On Buba Baldeh

The Late Buba Baldeh The Gambia Democratic Action Group (GDAG) wishes to extend its heartfelt condolence to the family, friends and associates of the late Bubacarr Michael Baldeh who died in Senegal on Wednesday July 9 2014. Our condolence also goes to our Gambian brothers and sisters in the struggle for this sad turn of events.

The membership of GDAG is shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of Mr. Baldeh and strongly condemned the actions and arrogance of the leadership of the Gambia Government for denying a bonafide son of our nation his constitutional and God given rights to be buried in his country of birth.

Bubacarr Baldeh, the face of Gambian exilees in Senegal, fought hard to restore democracy and rule of law in the Gambia. The Lion Politician, Humanist and Patriotic Gambian was called by his Lord at a time when his services were much more needed.

As Gambians continue to struggle to liberate our country from the clutches of tyranny, the fall of Bubacarr Baldeh should energize us to unite, love each other and be steadfast in our quest to bring back real democracy, the rule of law and justice in the Gambia.

And as we mourn the demise of a worthy son of our motherland, we ask all Gambians to pause and reflect on the life and legacy of Bubacarr Michael Baldeh.

We pray that Allah the Almighty forgive the sins of Bubacarr Baldeh and the deceased before him and reward them Janatul Firdaus.

We thank you.

GDAG you have my trust and confidence for being in solidarity with a fallen hero and family.

  2. Alagie Jallow

While the foolish CORDEG is attracting attention on themselves, sympathetic and caring people are fighting against injustice. May GDAG live longer.

I agree with you that we need to reflect on Buba Baldeh right now. Our country has lost a hero. I still have tears rolling on my cheeks. RIP Buba.

Now we know those who hold Gambian values and those who don’t have any. GDAG you are my star. Let CORDEG shut up until we finish mourning a fallen Hero.

When heroes pass away, wise ones pause and reflect on them. Unfortunately, CORDEG executive is not one of these wise people.

Buba Baldeh’s great grandfather, Musa Molloh Baldeh conquered and ruled about of Gambia’s territorial land until he was forced to relinquish control by the British. Mansajang Baldeh, Buba’s grandfather and son of Musa Mullo, presided over southern URR, Basse and the surroundings as the Crown Prince of Fulladu. Mansajang’s son, Micheal Baldeh, represented the people of basse and jimara in parliament after franchised was extended to the protectorate. He also served as minister of education in the PPP administration of sir Dawda jawara. Nobody can therefore doubt that Buba Baldeh was an indigine of The Gambia, he was not just a citizen, and yet we this Yahya jammeh with questionable citizenship denying buba burial right in his native MansaJang where his grandfather presided as crown prince of Fulladu Empire, and his father member of parliament. This is beyond believe. The word ‘sad’ is not strong enough to describe it.

Rest in peace Fula Mansa; Baldeh banna.
