The late Dr Naseni Sisay (Her husband and family built a clinic in her memory in Dobo village)

A clinic dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. Seni Sisay was last week inaugurated at Dobo Village in Central River Region.

The woman affectionately called Naseni died in a tragic automobile car accident in March 2014 in Texas, United States. Naseni’s ancestors hailed from Dobo village. The late pharmacist was a true philanthropist who helped so many people both in The Gambia Gambia and USA. She contributed immensely towards the professional training of many young people.

Her family decided to build the health clinic in her memory which can help a lot of people in this under-served community (Dobo and the surrounding villages). The community will work in partnership with the health authorities in enhancing the health needs of the Dobo.

During the opening ceremony, many people came to get health screenings and medications. The nurses and the doctor on site were overwhelmed by the demand for medical care on the day. The doctor on site, Dr. Michael Ashigbi, was the husband of Naseni Sisay. The occasion was graced by her son too from USA and other family members who travelled from USA. The health authority representatives from the Bansang Hospital and the regional health department were also present at the event.

The leader of the United Democratic Party, himself a native of Dobo village, graced the inauguration. Lawyer Ousainou Darboe prayed for the soul of Naseni, asking the gathering to remember her in their prayers. He thanked her family and all those close to her for the gesture. Mr. Darboe said the clinic will help improve the health of people, especially children, pregnant women and the elderly, in the remote community.

“This is the kind of sadaqa (charity) many should emulate for their deceased relatives instead of many expensive one-day events,” Lawyer Darboe said, exhorting beneficiaries to take good care of clinic.

May the saqatatuljariya be accepted for the wonderful Naseni Sisay whose life was cut-short.
