Detained Gambian Activist Freed

Ousainou-Baye-SankarehThe detained Gambian activist has been unconditionally freed from detention, Kairo News has been reliably informed.

Ousainou Baye Sankareh, a local language presenter of Kibaaro Radio, was released from security custody with no strings attached. The activist was detained by officials of the National Intelligence Agency in Banjul since his arrest on October 1st shortly after he landed at Banjul International Airport.

The reasons for Mr. Sankareh’s arrest remains, although informed sources attributed it to his reported brawl with one Sainey Sankanu, a Gambian in Spain.

The Spain native, who had his papers retained by Gambian security agents, is reported to have traveled upcountry for the Muslim feast of Eid-ul-Adha.

Kairo News has made frantic efforts to talk to Mr. Sankareh but without success.
