Desperate Love: Suicide Out Of Love

haja

A young life was wasted due to needless artificial barriers and restrictions. I call on our rural/Banjul people to let the young people break the barriers of class or caste system and base their values judgements on human dignity and upright characters.

I reject class system and caste system completely. Our Sarahuleh brothers, Banjul brothers, Badibou brothers, Kiang and Jarra brothers, Niani and Bolonba brothers…please with education and social change, drop all aspects of our cultures that hamper our free human association and matrimony. God does not Judge according to class or Caste ‘innamal munimuna iqwatun’ [all believers are brothers and sisters].

Tragic Story below:

21-year-old girl, who mused to her friends about committing suicide, has jumped to her death on Sunday from the dizzying heights of the 4th floor of an apartment building in Girona, Spain.

Lovesick Haja Bai Sillah, according to our sources, killed herself because they wouldn’t let her get married to the boy she loved.

She wanted to settle down with famous Serahule rapper, Kairaboy Soulja, with whom she had a child.

A source disclosed: “Serahules still believe in the caste system which led to Haja killing herself. The boy is ahorreh (noble) and the girl garankeh (smith).”

In traditional Serahule society, members of each caste and sub-caste are to marry within their own endogamous group.

Reacting to Haja’s sudden demise, Serahule DJ, Muhammed Baba Sissoho of Hot FM said it’s time to tackle and eradicate the caste system.

He wrote on Facebook: “Sometimes, I ask why  can’t we not marry each other? It’s time to stand against such culture and do what Allah says.”

An official of the Gambian Embassy in Spain on Monday told What’s On-Gambia that they are waiting for the Spanish police to send them their report on the death of Haja Bai Sillah.

Just a few days before her death, Haja, a famous girl on social media, posted a photo of herself on Facebook wishing her friends a happy Ramadan.

“Still can’t believe you’re gone so soon my dear little sister and daughter. I pray Allah forgives all your sins, have mercy on your soul and grant you Jannatul Firdwas. May your soul rest in perfect peace,” one Mariama Sillah wrote on her wall.

Mamzy Batchilly of Crevillente, Spain added: “Rest In peace my lovely sister.”

  1. Taragic. My prayer goes out to the family.

  2. It has reached to this point! It’s time for us to man up and accept each other as human after all we are all children of Adam. What a difficult story to report!

Rest in peace innocent girl. Society’s meaningless caste system kills you. Period! When it comes to live it doesn’t matter whether you’re on the lowest level of social ladder.

  4. This is discrimination and ignorant belief at highest level. A very sad story. Some Gambians needs to wake up and live according to ideals of God given rights of individual freedom, rights to marry love of their life and respect individual choices. The question is “how can people with such a backward and ignorance mentality in Spain contribute to democratization process of our country when they cannot even recognize the rights of innocent girl to marry the love of her life”? I am sure such an ignorance and backward belief is the very problem why our individual rights are violated on daily basis by rapist , child molester and evil president who grew up in such a society. We all need to look into ourselves and ask “do we care to respect the rights of individual choices in our families “? We all tend to blame dictator Jammeh for our current predicament but careful analysis of our society, one can conclude that our very problem lies in our society. There are huge discriminatory problems in our society, these includes tribalism, regionalism, caste system, class system and, religious intolerance (of late). Denying the young beautiful girl to marry her choice is violation of her rights to marry and to pursuit happiness. I call on Spanish authorities to prosecute these parents or whoever play a role to her death . This will send a clear message to all those parents who live in democratic society that you cannot live in open and democratic society, the same time you want to practice undemocratic values resulting to death of innocent girl. This bad cultural practice should be discarded so that we can live in peace.

  5. This caste system is a shame on the human race. Shame on people who would look at their fellow human and believe they are better etc. It is made believe n thus a mental illness..

  6. Very tragic and sad…And a reminder that our country has yet to fulfil those promises we made to ourselves at Independence…

An indictment on the previous and present governments and representatives of the people, that after half a century of self rule, we are still affected by remnants of medieval beliefs…

Future governments must take civil education seriously and engage communities with such cultures, if we are to eradicate this unfortunate and erroneous beliefs…

We still have these problems because they have been exploited by the political elites for their own selfish ends. ..
