“These disingenuous attempts to continue oppression whilst trying to show a humane face will backfire, Yahya Jammeh does not understand what it means to let people be free, the oppression is not stopping by mere pardoning  of some prisoners and jailing or detaining of others” Lawyer Darboe retorts.

Lawyer Darboe accused President Jammeh of attempting to mislead Gambians and the international community with the recent prisoner pardon. The UDP leader speaking to supporters in Brufut said “it is wrong to say the President pardon the prisoners out of mercy, the President was selective and calculating in the freeing of certain prisoners. Why was a high profile political prisoners like Amadou Sanneh (UDP treasurer) was not part of those released? The answer is simple because he’s not part of former APRC sympathizers or President Jammeh’s allies”.

These disingenuous attempts to continue oppression whilst trying to show a humane face will backfire, Yahya Jammeh does not understand what it means to let people be free, the oppression is not stopping by mere pardoning  of some prisoners and jailing or detaining of others, Lawyer Darboe retorts.

‘At the rally, United Democratic Party (UDP) has promised to commit D60 million for development of youths schemes in the country when elected to office 2016.
Speaking to a massive supporter turnout at a Brufut rally, the UDP leader-cum lawyer said the aforesaid sum will be forked out for youth to venture into carpentry, wielding etc to beef up self-employment. The target fund will be made available two years into tenure, once the party is voted to replace president Jammeh, the 67-year-old leader said amid cheering.
Switching the controls, Darboe, who wouldn’t be constitutionally eligible to contest 2016 polls, mocked Jammeh’s 2016 rice sustainability mantra as ’empty talks’. “Countries are not developed by empty talks: like Gambia will be a superpower when the domestic borrowing amounted to billions” he says.
The recent release of over 200 prisoners, according to Darboe, is a devised ploy by the president Jammeh ahead of elections, saying majority of released convicts are APRC backers.

Darboe told supporters, this coming Sunday, all the roads will lead to Kombo Gunjur. He called on Gambians to speak to their people and remind them that, things cannot continue the way they are anymore. “this is not the job of politicians alone, but every single Gambian. Speak to your people to be armed with a voters card and make use of it at the polls.’
UDP is an opposition party, second largest in the Gambia.’
