Another Political Pillar Is Gone

The late Alhagie Kutubo Manneh!

The death of another worthy Gambian has been announced. Alhagie Kutubo Manneh, a strong pillar of the United Democratic Party (UDP), this morning answered to Allah’s call at the St. Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul.

The late Manneh was a medical microbiologist who was among 12 people who sustained serious injuries in January 2001 accident between Fullabantang and Yero Beri Kunda in the Central River Region. The accident that claimed Kutubo’s wife Aminata Ceesay and brother Alhagie Karamo Nyandu, a marabout of Pirang, left the microbiologist crippled. The same accident resulted to the deaths of the UDP National Assembly Members of Central Badibou and Kiang East Abu Karamba Gassama and Buba Samura, respectfully. Kinda Camara, a secretary of the UDP also died in an accident that occurred when the victims were returning from the inauguration of a mosque in Dobo village, the birthplace of UDP leader Ousainou Darboe’s ancestors.

Kutubo and wife who lived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were on vacation in the country at the time of the fatal crash.

Kutubo Manneh was a key political figure who would be remembered for being a community leader whose frantic efforts led to the victory of the opposition Coalition in the Kombos in December 2016. All those who knew the Kombo Brufut native described him as “a very intelligent, gentle, kind and humble man of good integrity.”
