‘Accepting Defeat Is An Act Of Honour’

Defeated mayoral candidates in the Kanifing Municipality were quick to concede defeat and congratulate Talib Ahmed Bensouda of the United Democratic Party. One of the defeated candidates described accepting defeat as an act of honour and respect.”

Independent candidate Papa Momodou Musa Njie congratulated those who “conceded defeat in the recently concluded elections. You’re the people that serve as a great inspiration to me and to our great Gambia. Accepting defeat is an act of honour and respect.”

Mr. Njie, who finished third behind Bensouda and Ousman Rambo Jatta [candidate of the Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction], went beyond congratulating and wishing the winners “a fruitful tenure in office. “I would like to implore all contestants who won to open up their arms for all Gambians, irrespective of their party affiliation, to have a sense of belonging in the way they are to be governed and in the way resources are distributed.”

Njie also asked winners to serve everyone in their council or municipality with equality. “You don’t have to discriminate parties or individuals just because they were against you, our beloved Gambia does not need retribution. We need to continue the peaceful coexistence as we are known for all over the world. Let the leadership preach peace and love, for it is the only way to getting our Gambia to the promised land.”
